BEVERLEY DeVOS CONFIRMED

The Trump Administration struck a potentially major blow against corrupt American Academia today as Vice-President Pence cast the tie-breaking vote confirming Beverley DeVos as US Secretary of Education. The Senate was deadlocked 50-50, necessitating Pence's vote.

DeVos' nomination was the one most bitterly fought by the Left and such RINO confederates as they could muster. There was also a contingent of well-meaning, but misguided, Conservative Senators who object to federal governance in education.

The problem with the strict Conservative position is that we are long-past the time when the 'Cold Turkey' approach to public education would have worked. We do not have the infrastructure of parental involvement and local control that we had when the original Department of Health, Education, and Welfare was established in 1953; nor when the Department of Education was spun off in 1979. Culturally, public education is going to have to be weaned away from the Government Trough.

DeVos' experience in School Choice at many local levels makes her the ideal choice for this task. She is categorically opposed to the Cultural Marxist monopoly on public education and even lists Focus on the Family as among the organizations whose goals she supports.

Clearing the Augean Stables that is American Academia---from Pre-School to Postgraduate levels will be no easy task. Administration at all levels is burgeoning with parasites and overpaid mandarins who leech off the taxpayers while contributing nothing. The faculty is filled with incompetents and crackpots---like this whacko who went berserk in New York recently. This is going to be a difficult process that requires a lot of patience, like Boris Yeltsin had to do when breaking up the Soviet Union.

DeVos' nomination is really the first step in urgently needed reforms. We have literally lost a generation to academic corruption and incompetence, and our future depends on fixing our schools and fixing them now. It's too late to quibble over government control; already---and we've cited several instances on this blog---other countries are beating us and beating us badly in technology. Our system beat theirs in the past: however flawed it was, it was still superior to other countries' systems. But today, Russia, China, Europe, and India are wiping us out in technological and engineering achievements.

American parents are largely at fault here. Our generation has been too content to rest on the laurels of what our forefathers achieved. We can sneer at the Chinese Lunar Project because we put men on the moon in 1969. But right now, China is in space and we're on the ground. While NASA is building transgender toilets, China is developing high-tech communications satellites that we have to import because we can't build them ourselves anymore.

It remains to be seen what DeVos will do, but somebody has to do something. Otherwise, we're well on our way to the Third World. As DNC member Howard Dean said of the Berkeley rioters recently: "They are our future." That maybe the future that the DNC wants, but certainly not what our Founders envisioned.

  1. The left keeps screeching that she is "unqualified." I've read CV and she seems pretty darn qualified to me.

    1. She's certainly more qualified than anybody who's held that post since 1979. DeVos has established successful alternative schools in Michigan, for example.

    2. The NEA hates her. That's good enough for me.

  2. I love that Betsy Devos (NB: not Beverly) is not part of the communist front US public education system. She's Erik Prince's sister, and she has been associated with Robert Sirico's Acton Institute. I don't like Sirico but I won't hold that against her as it could be guilt by association. Any thoughts on Prince?

    1. My thoughts on Eric Prince are about the same as yours on Robert Sirico. I haven't seen any evidence though that either one is in very close contact with Betsy DeVos or influencing her policies. The last I heard of Prince, he was hiding out in Dubai. I don't know what he's been up to recently, but we can assume it probably isn't anything good lol.
