The demographic which is responsive to this kind of nonsense and sensationalism is the one to which the Madison Avenue shylocks, the Media Moguls, and the Uniparty's campaign managers are counting on translating into votes. The candidates dutifully follow this kind of a script and pander to the Lowest Common Denominator. As citizens, we really should ask ourselves what kinds of people would want the support of the most ignorant and most fanatical elements in society, but that is another topic.
Back during the 2000 Elections, the Bush Machine decided to throw Social Conservatives under the bus. The punditocracy back then (many of whom are still with us) chimed that "we can't win on social issues" and scoffed at anyone who thought otherwise as "content with losing on principle." In the 2010s, the Red Pills took up the same line, adding to it that "controlling the narrative" was the important thing, regardless of the truth, and scoffed at anyone who thought otherwise that "facts don't care about your feelings" and theirs' was the realistic approach as opposed to all of us "impractical idealists." Thus, winning became an end in itself, and the end justified the means---now we're seeing the results. The family, which is the basis of any stable civilization has been hollowed out; our schools little more than regimented political youth camps; our religious heritage supplanted by theater; the Middle Class is being reduced in favor of an Oligarchy. In other words, family, education, economic independence, and moral values---the very things that underpin a viable self-governing Republic were sacrificed and we wonder why we keep moving in the direction of Authoritarianism a la the Great Reset.
In a system such as the New Right has created (and basically they did little more than adopt the strategy and the ideology of the New Left), brute force becomes 'strength,' merit and virtue is measured by wealth and status; influence is the measure of truth; 'facts' are determined by consensus; society is divided between 'winners' and 'losers'; sales-pitches replace academic expertise and sensationalism becomes public discourse.
This is why elections ultimately don't matter. A corrupt and debased culture can't produce anything other than a corrupt and debased government.
