A settlement came down in the first of several lawsuits filed over a major media scandal involving a Kentucky Catholic School. CNN and other fake-news outlets got caught faking video footage of a student named Nick Sandmann (a Trump supporter) at a rally last January. The Whacko Left went after Sandmann, his school, his church---with vicious threats, often of a violent nature. Sandmann's family sued CNN for a quarter-billion dollars in damages.
Fox-19 Cincinnati reported late today that CNN has thrown up the sponge in court; and reached an out-of-court Settlement. There have been various reports---not officially released---about just how much The Most Trusted Name in News was forced to fork over after their humiliating defeat. But the general rumors imply the amount was something fairly substantial.
It's really noteworthy that Sandmann's brief statement on Twitter has 64,600 upvotes as of this writing. CNN's average daily Prime-Time viewership in the 4th Quarter 2019 was about 91,800---not a very impressive margin if we take these numbers as endorsements. According to Forbes incidentally, CNN's numbers were down 31% from Quarter 3; which in turn was down 26% from Quarter 2. It's probably a good thing that Sandmann got a payout when he did; at this rate, CNN's next legal battle will be in Bankruptcy Court.
There are also pending lawsuits against NBC and The Washington Post. It's not looking good for the latter; because they've been using various legal tactics to stall an hearing: this is a strategy that US lawyers typically use when they know they have a weak case. The purpose of doing so is either to wear down the Plaintiff into giving up or luring them into a legal blunder that gets the case dismissed on a technicality. In high-profile cases like these, however, it rarely works.
Lin Wood, an attorney for the Sandmann Family had a good perspective: "the money they’re seeking is not designed to compensate Nick, but to deter the defendants from doing the same thing (that they’re accused of) in the future." Absolutely. The out-of-control Media Cartels have destroyed too many innocent Americans during the last few decades; and they need to be held accountable. If an average citizen ends up in the news, it's not freedom of the press to turn his life into a media circus and set up him up as a target.
Good Men Doing Good Things. Let's give a round of applause to Brother Nick and his legal team on a job well done.
I really hope he got money and gets more money from the others.
ReplyDeleteLast I heard some limp wristed judge threw all the lawsuits filed by sandmann out.
